Newport Town AFC is a community based club and has been firmly a part of the local community for the past 50 years, making a major contribution to the people of Newport and surrounding areas. We are constantly striving to improve our offerings in our community in terms of providing facilities and a sporting platform for our children and young adults. This has only been possible with the ongoing support of our local community. We have already invested €1.3M in our facilities in Derryleigh Park for the benefit of the whole community and have almost 500 players in the club from the Newport Nippers all the way up to the A team.

Unfortunately, Newport Town AFC ceased all footballing activities in mid-March due to the Covid-19 pandemic and disappointingly, as well as all football stopping, this also meant that we had to postpone many events that were in the pipeline for our 50th anniversary celebrations. We have also had to cease all our fundraising activities including our main fundraiser, the weekly club lotto and other fundraisers such as Last One Standing, birthday parties in the clubhouse and the club shop etc. This has had a major financial impact on the club. These many fundraisers are vital for both the day to day running of our club and our ability to make the monthly repayments on the substantial loan that was taken out to build our clubhouse.

Whilst all footballing and fundraising activities are currently ceased, the maintenance of our pitches and facilities in Derryleigh Park must be continued. Our two pitches are amongst the best in the region but require regular maintenance to keep them in top-shape. Important and essential work had been planned on the pitches during the summer to ensure that they remain in great condition. Unfortunately, there is a major cost in these works and right now, these plans have had to be cutback. All monies raised will go towards paying for the maintenance of our grounds, continued improvements in our club facilities and to continue to offer the supports we provide in the community.

The Club Committee are now calling on your support once again as we launch our €20 for 2020 Fundraiser. We fully appreciate that these are challenging times for everyone but your support at this difficult time no matter how great or small would be greatly appreciated. We would also appreciate if you could let your friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues know about our fundraiser.
