Juniors:
The Junior A side had mixed fortunes during the week. They beat Corbally 2-1 at home last Wednesday and then suffered a very disappointing 4-1 defeat away to Carew Park on Saturday evening. Against Corbally, Newport took the lead through Ben Coleman but then seemed to sit back and Corbally grew into the game and scored a deserved equaliser. This seemed to spur Newport on and they regained the lead courtesy of Jimmy Fyfe and held on to take the 3 points and make it three wins from three games.
On Saturday evening, they travelled to Carew Park, never an easy place to get a result and they returned home empty-handed after Carew won comfortably on a 4-1 scoreline to pick up their first points of the season. Carew took a 2-0 lead into the interval but Clemy pulled one back early in the second half to bring Newport back into the game. The visitors were well in the game at this stage but 2 goals in the 73rd & 82nd minutes ensured that Carew would take the 3 points on offer.
It’s fair to say that due to injuries and players missing, the lads aren’t yet firing on full cylinders and this is a tough division with every team capable of beating each other. It’s early days yet and the A team are currently third in Premier A after four games. Next up for the lads is the visit of Moyross to Derryleigh on Tuesday evening.
The B’s game away to Charleville was called off due to Storm Francis. The U18 Youths played their first game of the season and were unlucky to lose 2-1 away to Regional B with Eoin McLoughlin on the scoresheet for Newport. They bounced back on Sunday afternoon with a solid 4-1 win at home to Castle Rovers in a much improved performance. Scorers were Jay Ryan, Diarmuid O’Riordan, Dan Egan and captain, Ben O’Sullivan.
The U17s made it three win from three with comfortable wins at home to Parkville and away to Regional. They beat Parkville 6-1. Ciaran Darcy wrapped up an impressive performance with a hat-trick and suber-sub Conor Brett chipped in with a well-taken double with Shane O'Halloran also on the score sheet. Newport took a 1-0 lead into the break after a very even first half but went up the gears in the second half to eventually grind down a plucky Parkville side. Special mention for stand-in keeper, Christopher Egan, who had a very impressive game between the sticks. They then recorded a very comfortable 12-0 win away to a plucky Regional side who kept going right until the final whistle. The Newport scorers were Diarmuid O’Riordan (5), Ciaran Darcy (3), Adam McEvoy 2, Shane O’Halloran & Darren Gleeson.

Schoolboys:
After almost 6 months, the schoolboys resumed on-field competitive action at the weekend. Both U12 sides were in action. The A team recorded an excellent 1-0 win away to Lisnagry in the Premier League with Ronan Gaffrey scoring from the penalty spot in the final minute for the win. A very young U12B side gave a great account of themselves despite losing 3-0 at home to a very good Star Rovers side.
The U14s enjoyed an impressive 5-2 win at home to Aisling Annacotty D with Zack Mooney, the scorer-in-chief, with 4 goals and Ely White Linnane also on the scoresheet. Our U16 side travelled to Dooradoyle in the Premier Div and lost 4-2 to a very strong Regional Utd team. Aaron Coleman & Jamie Kavanagh were the Newport scorers.
Finally, our U8 Nippers enjoyed a very enjoyable non-competitive game away to Bridge Celtic on Saturday morning. These games are all about enjoyment & development and we saw lots of fun, smiles and fun out in Bridgetown.

The App is really easy to download and simple to use and it’s vital that all managers, junior players and parents download our App in time for the return of training and matches. Details on how to download the app are on our website.
