Despite the Level 5 Covid-19 lockdown, our underage sides have been able to continue non-contact training. It’s safe to say that attendances at training have never been better and the players & coaches have been able to train but all the time observing the FAI’s safety protocols. It’s strange not being able to tackle or get in close contact with other players during training sessions but this has allowed coaches & players to focus on more technical aspects of the players’ development and still have fun at training. Great credit is due to the coaches, the players and their parents for adapting to the new procedures and turning up for the sessions despite the poor weather at times. The club sees training in the outdoors as vital for the players’ physical and mental well-being during these strange times.
We hope that on December 1, our junior sides will also be able to return to group training sessions, even if games might still be somewhere in the distance. All we can do as a club is to continue to adhere to the guidelines and look after the safety of our players and coaches and hopefully in the not too distant future, we might see the return of games and visiting teams to Derryleigh Park.
In the meantime, we call on all our supporters to support our vital fundraising efforts such as the weekly club lotto, the €20 for 2020 Euromillions syndicate (starting very soon), our clothes collection and the upcoming Xmas raffle. These fundraisers are essential to keep the show on the road and enable the club to continue to provide its facilities for our players and wider community. Take care and remain safe.
