Juniors
Unfortunately, the 2020/21 has now been cancelled and will not be completed. This is disappointing news for all our players and management teams but this decision was completely out of the club’s hands. The players are now back in training and look forward to the start of the 2021/22 season in early August. Hopefully, the new season will be fully completed with interruption.
Schoolboys
The 2020 / 2021 Cup Draws for U12 to U16 age groups have taken place. Pending the easing of Government COVID-19 restrictions, the aim is to play these games in June, starting on June 8. There will also be games for the U7s to U11s in this period as well. Fixtures will be available on the club website.
Schoolgirls
The NTSFL intend to play Cup/Shield/League fixtures to finish out the 2020/21 season. Pending the easing of Government COVID-19 restrictions, the aim is to play these games in June. Fixtures will be available on the club website.
Aoife Mellerick called up to U15 FAI Centre of Excellence
Congratulations to our Schoolgirl player, Aoife Mellerick, who has been selected to attend the U15 FAI Centre of Excellence. This is a great achievement for Aoife and a reflection of her talent and hard work as well as the support & encouragement from her coaches (NTAFC John O’Hora & Trish Kennedy and NTSFL Brian Brooks) and team-mates along the way.
The Centres of Excellence Programme is the first step on the Elite Player Pathway for girls. The aim of this programme is to further raise the technical ability of elite players through the provision of further training and lifestyle development at regional level which will ultimately prepare them for the next step, International Football.
The Centres of Excellence take place in eight regions nationwide with each centre staffed by local FAI Football Development Officers, who follow a coaching syllabus as set out by the FAI High Performance Director.
Lotto
NO winner of this week's lotto. Jackpot is now €1,600. Numbers drawn on Saturday, May 22 were 2,5,6,19. Three x €20 lucky dip winners including one online. Pamela Clarke, Mulcaire Manor (Online), Aidan Gleeson, Newport & Peter Coleman, Scrageen. Thanks to everyone who bought a ticket. You can enter the club lotto online at the club’s website or buy a ticket at our stand in Centra Newport on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings or from any committee member. Next lotto draw takes place on May 29.
Last One Standing
Congrats to Dermot 'Dodo' Ryan, who won our Last One Standing competition after 9 rounds. There were 6 players heading into round 9 the weekend before last but Southampton’s victory over Fulham was enough to secure the €500 prize for Dermot, as the other 5 remaining players, were badly let down by Everton against rock-bottom Sheffield Utd. Well done Dodo and thanks to everyone who took part. Last One Standing will be back in the new season. Special thanks to Seán Ryan who took over running the competition and did a great job.
Club App
With the return to play, ALL parents, players & coaches are asked to download the Club App (Club Zap) if they haven't already. The app allows better communication between coaches & parents/players and also includes the Covid-19 declaration to be completed before every training session. The app also allows you to stay up to date with club news, fixtures, results, fundraisers and much more.
Old Clothes Collection
Now that Derryleigh Park is re-open, our popular ‘Clothes Collection’ resumes. Are you clearing out wardrobes or de-cluttering? We can help. Drop your bags of clothes, shoes, handbags, blankets & bed linen (NO duvets) to Derryleigh Park, Mon-Fri, 6-9pm and Saturday mornings. Just leave them in sealed bags under the clubhouse canopy and we will recycle them for you. If you have any questions or need bags collected, please contact Tim Coffey on 086 3935244. Spread the word.
Advertising Opportunities in Derryleigh Park
We are now offering businesses & services the opportunity to advertise on customised signage prominently displayed on the astro-turf fencing in Derryleigh Park. With almost 30 teams in the club and close on 500 players, when sport resumes, there will be a high number of visitors to Derryleigh Park every week and this is a great opportunity to promote your business and at the same time, support our club. If you require details of the packages available, please contact any committee member, e-mail secretary@newporttownafc.com or call 087 6504779.
